RECONSTRUCTION OF CONTRACTED EYE SOKET
Kim Hyung-Man

Kim Sung-Soo
Abstract
Successful reconstruction of the anophthalmic socket for the maintanance of an artificial eye depends upon a cavity of sufficient size and shape to maintain the prosthetic device.

This necessitates the presence of eyelids and fornices of sufficient depth to keep the prosthesis within the socket.

A socket may be lined with skin or mucous membrane. The surgical technique of socket revision is depended upon whether total or partial socket reconstruction is required. For the partial socket reconstruction we preferred mucosal grafting, but in complete socket reconstruction we performed split-thickness skin grafting in consideration of the difficulties to get enough mucosa.

We report that we have experienced five cases of eye socket reconstruction with skin or mucous membrane for the past two and half years.
